Here’s what FXU President Student Experience, Amanda Chetwynd-Cowieson, has been working on during Dec/Jan…
Give it a Go Week
So 18th – 24th January was FXU’s version of refreshers – aka Give It A Go Week – another chance to sign up to all our fantastic clubs, societies, volunteering groups and sustainability initiatives. It’s fair to say the week has been pretty successful! Clubs and societies really upped their game with the number of free or cheap sessions they put on and it has been so fantastic to see so many students and staff alike getting involved with the activities provided. It’s never too late to try something new so always feel free to pop into FXU and ask about what we have going on.
NEW “A Day In The Life Of” Scheme
One of the biggest things I’ve been working on throughout December and January has been setting up the ‘Day In The Life Of’ scheme, this gives students and senior staff members the opportunity to ‘shadow’ each other for a day. The main aim of the scheme is to allow staff a better insight into the experience students have whilst at Falmouth University or the University of Exeter Cornwall Campuses; and it allows students a peak behind the scenes of what senior managers, professional service staff and even FXU Presidents get up to on a daily basis! There’s still plenty of time to sign up for this year’s Day In The Life Of scheme and if it sounds like something you want to get involved with then fill out the short form on this link: Link HERE
Following on from student feedback I’ve been working closely with the wider FXU team, FX Plus and Falmouth University to make the changes you all asked for a reality. One of the biggest wins coming soon is a cash machine!! The contract is ready to be sent off, then it’s all about installing the relevant hardware –so we’re hoping this should be going into Fox Café as soon as possible! We’re currently at the Contract Completed section of the timescale below.
The next Woodlane Win is the arrival of the food truck vans outside Fox Café, definitely need to say a huge thanks to the catering team for working with me so quickly and effectively on this one. For the beginning of this term there will be a different truck at Woodlane on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesday’s – assuming this is a popular choice for lunch, then hopefully there will be trucks down there every day of the week eventually!
This is something I talk to students about on a daily basis and I’m making sure both Falmouth and Exeter Universities take this very seriously. There are now discussions about how places like the lower Stannary can be made more accommodating for evening study, as well as reviews of different areas on both campuses. Hopefully there’ll be some improvement to current, underused study spaces on campus before the next big wave of deadlines and hand-ins – watch this space. A great example of improvements already are down at Woodlane, any students who want a quiet space to work in should check out the improved study room in the Woodlane library!
There’s quite a few fun and interesting events lined up for this term including a ‘Sport For All’ sports day; the annual Bottle and Barrel matches; a charity dodgeball tournament; Sport Relief; President elections and much, much more!
Last but not least, here is a photo of my card board self, living the dream outside of club I. Look out for these around campus and apparently around the rest of Cornwall too!
I’ll be back with another update next month.
