Should FXU support the National Demo for free education – no fees, no cuts and no debt?

fxu referendum free education

Student, Alex Falconer, has made a proposal to go to an FXU referendum (an all-student vote), which is for FXU to support the national demo for free education – no fees, cuts and debt. The proposal has been seconded by a petition of 100 current students of Falmouth and Exeter. It is up to you, as students, to vote to decide.

The national demo referred to is one that has been called on Wednesday 19 November in London, under the banner of ‘Free Education: No fees. No cuts. No debt.’ The coalition of groups involved in calling the demonstration includes the National Campaign Against Fees and Cuts (NCAFC), the Student Assembly Against Austerity (the student wing of the People’s Assembly) and the Young Greens.

If the majority of students who vote back this proposal, it will become an FXU policy mandating FXU to follow the actions stated in the proposal. If the majority of students who vote are against the proposal, then FXU won’t be mandated to follow it.

There is an open meeting for students to debate this proposal: 3.30pm-4.30pm Monday 13 October, Exchange Seminar Green, Penryn Campus. An outline of arguments for and against and more details can be found on

Voting will be open 4pm Wednesday 15 October – 4pm Friday 17 October
Voting will be online at
