In the run up to the General Meeting on Thursday 29 May, we’ll be discussing the agenda items and asking you what you think. Please share your thoughts in the comments below and remember to come along to the meeting to get your voice heard. It’s 4-6pm in the Exchange Lecture Theatre at Penryn Campus. All students are welcome!
Motion proposal: ‘Fair Pay for university and FX Plus staff’
Should FXU lobby the universities and FX Plus to pay their staff (including student staff) at least the Living Wage? What do you think about zero-hour contracts?
Current student, Phillip Fenton, has proposed the motion ‘fair pay for all University and FX Plus staff’ at the next FXU Union General Meeting (UGM). Students can vote on this policy during the UGM. There will be an opportunity to hear from the proposer himself as well as any opposing arguments and debate on the motion. A vote will then be taken by all students in attendance. The full motion and further information can be found on www.fxu.org.uk/ugm.
Will being paid the Living Wage help students alleviate student debt and alleviate poverty for everyone? Or does paying the Living Wage cause inflation in the long-run? Is your experience of having a zero-hour contract a good one? Or does it allow for students to get exploited? Come and have your say.
If you have any additional comments leading up to and during the meeting, tweet us @FXUtweet and use the hashtag #FXUugm. We’ll be live tweeting the event! And remember, if this is an issue you feel really strongly about it, come along to the meeting. Your voice is important!
